Hey everybody, I hope you all are having a blessed day. I just want to come on here and talk about something that I have not heard many people talk about. Tithing. In this video, I want to discuss how tithing affects not only your finances but your overall life. Hi, my name is Prince Chenou.
I work at a big financial institution and I just want to come on here and make videos to help anybody who's willing to listen. And if that's you, let's get into it. To start off, what is even tithing? Tithing is the practice of giving 10% of your income to your local church or place of worship as an act of faith and obedience to God.
It originates from biblical verses where believers are encouraged to honor God with the fruits of their earnings. Seen not only as a financial contribution, but as a spiritual discipline that reflects your trust in God. And so, I want to talk about how important my faith has been throughout my life. And I want to take a step back first to discuss a little bit of my journey with not only tithing, but my overall faith.
Growing up, I used to always go to church with my family. I vividly remember being in church half awake and have my mom shrug me on the shoulder to wake me up. Another key thing that I remember is that she would always give us $2 to go give at the altar. At that moment, I didn't understand the importance of it.
But that instilled in me the importance of giving back even when you don't think you have it. As I grew older and started to make my own money, I was very frugal with my money and was not willing to give it up to anybody. In addition to this, another another thing is that strayed me away from tithing is that I didn't know where the money was going.
I knew I was giving it to the church, but I wanted to have control over my money. There's something uncomfortable about letting that control go that took me a very long time to get over because you've seen on the news and articles about corrupt pastors or churches that use money in negative ways or for personal reasons.
And that forced me to have a true negative connotation around tithing. The turning point for me was that I had a realization of a basic principle of life. The more you give, the more you receive. What that means to me is that the more value that I'm able to provide to others and to help others when I can, it naturally will come back to me.
This has affected my life in a multitude of ways. But most importantly, it started off with tithing. And initially, I didn't know I did not start at the 10% that it suggested. I started off with an amount that I was comfortable with. And I think even more importantly, I was giving to a church that I felt very comfortable in.
and I knew that they were making a huge impact within the community. Over time, I just saw the feeling and the emotion that I had associated with tithing change. I was more willing to give, not necessarily knowing where it was going, but just knowing that God has amazing things with in his plans.
Now, I want to move over to another point that I want to discuss. How tithing has taught me financial discipline. For starters, tithing forced me to live on 90% of the money that comes into my paychecks. This is something that I wasn't used to, but it's something that as you do more and more often, you gain that skill of discipline and it spills over to other aspects of your life.
It helps you understand the importance of living on less than you make. Another piece is that it taught me the aspect of consistency. Me and my fiance now tied regularly. This has brought us a consistent improvement within our life. Last but not least, this has taught me the importance of having faith because I'm human just like everybody else and I can think of all the different ways that I can use that money that I'm giving.
But once you realize that God is always with you, he will always provide. Then you come to the understanding that you shouldn't feel attached to the money and he will always provide more for you. I also want to talk about how tithing has changed my mindset from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset.
Like I spoke on earlier in this in my life, every dollar that I made, I wanted to hold on to it as much as I can and try my hardest not to let the money go. You start to build a false a false attachment to money because you feel as if you won't be able to make it back if you were to lose it.
I feel like as I've gone throughout my tithing journey, it has shown me the importance of an abundance mindset. The more opportunity to help others to make an impact on them is far greater than the amount of money that you can ever make. Another thing that I've realized is that through the power of tithing, it has helped me to resist the urge of greed in comparison to others.
Now I want to transition to some of the questions that I've heard from other people who are opposed to tithing and even questions that I've had myself associated with tithing. The first one that I've always heard and I ask myself as well is can I tithe and also build wealth? And what I would say to that is yes.
Yes, you can. It goes back to what I stated earlier about the more you give, the more you receive. It helps you to not get attached to money. And once you understand that, you know that money can easily be made just as easily as it goes away. Another question I've heard is what if I'm in debt?
And this is an absolutely great question. I feel like this is such an important question to ask. Tithing is just giving as much as you can. It doesn't have to be that 10%. It can be an amount that you are comfortable with. I believe that it's more important about the skills that you learn from being generous and it spills over to other aspects of your life.
This can look like you being more generous with your time or and giving back through that way. And the last question that I've heard often is, is tithing even required? And I would say to that, absolutely not. It is not required, but it's definitely transformative. I speak here as a walking testimony of how tithing has changed my life.
not just from a faith perspective but from an overall mentality and how I carry myself throughout everyday life. And so I would encourage anybody who's willing who's listening to this video and is also a believer in Christ but may not be tithing to give it a try and see what it can do for you.
This is definitely not something easy and it's something I'm still working on throughout my life. I'm not perfect like I stated, but the action of trying on a consistent basis to get better is what really matters. I really do hope this video helps somebody out there. I would love to help in any way I can.
If you have any questions or comments or or thoughts, please put them down below in the comments and I look forward to starting a discussion. Thank you and have a blessed
